Is it real or counterfeit?

Like many world-leading brands, our success has led to our products being copied by counterfeiters. Unfortunately, it's all too frequent that we're asked if a counterfeit website is real, or hear a story about someone who accidentally purchased a counterfeit parka online. Protect yourself and those you care about by buying only authentic Canada Goose products from an authorized retailer. If you're concerned about a website selling counterfeit merchandise, or advertising an unauthorized Canada Goose sale, paste the URL below to check. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

The dangers of counterfeiting

Counterfeiting is not only illegal, but also dangerous.

After analyzing the content of counterfeit jackets, we know that instead of the sanitized, Canadian down used by Canada Goose, counterfeiters often use feather mulch or other fillers. These materials are often coated in bacteria, fungus or mildew, posing significant health risks to unsuspecting consumers.

Finally, counterfeit isn't just a possible danger to your health, but also your wallet. Counterfeit sites are unlikely to offer a refund once a fake product is delivered. Moreover, without secure payment processing, your credit or identity could be at risk.

The business of counterfeiting

From seizures at global border crossings by customs officers and police, to rogue websites and illegal online auctions, we deal with counterfeiters every day. Made illegally, the fake jackets are found on many rogue websites, as well as in flea markets around the world. Counterfeiting is illegal. It often funds organized crime and counterfeit factories in regions where labour standards are lax often employing child labour.

Key identifiers are poor details in the embroidery along with colour variations in the stitching and/or errors in the shapes of the maple leaves within our Arctic Disc. Amazingly, “Canada” and “Arctic” are sometimes spelled incorrect.

Fur ruff

Authentic Canada Goose fur ruffs look thick and luxurious. They are functional in that they provide ultimate protection against frostbite on the face. Counterfeit fur looks scraggly, tangled and sometimes dirty. Coyote ruffs are also much softer than commonly used alternatives such as raccoon. As well, look for poor seam quality on the hood.

Hologram

As of Fall 2017, our new unique hologram label (shown below), will be sewn into every Canada Goose product as proof of authenticity. The hologram, created exclusively for Canada Goose, features a Polar Bear image and elements that can be seen from different angles.

The Polar Bear image is a significant symbol to the Canada Goose brand. Since 2007, we have supported Polar Bears International, an organization that provides critical research for polar bear conservation, helping to ensure that polar bears roam the sea ice for generations to come.
